Response to "Port Noise Policy"

Updated: Aug 7, 2020

We have been working long and hard to prepare a formal response to the Port Authority of NSW’s draft "Port Noise Policy” (PNP) released in June 2020.

Our major objection is that the Port Authority has dismissed offhand our repeated request for a curfew to be imposed between the hours of 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. Our second objection is that the noise limits proposed by them are well above the existing limits which are already too high for local residents to be able to sleep undisturbed at night when there are ships berthed at Glebe inland 1 and 2. In the past that has been for a few weeks a year. Should the Hanson project be approved and the MUF be built, there will be ships there for upwards of 250 nights a year. The Port Authority clearly resents the fact that so many people have responded to past and current State Government encouragements and now live in the Pyrmont area. It shows little consideration for their right to live in quiet enjoyment of their neighbourhood, especially between the hours of 9 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Here is a copy of our formal response to the PNP.  It examines every one of the 18 points raised and refutes them one by one.

If you'd like to respond to the "Port Noise Policy" submit your feedback by 10 August to the Port Authority of NSW or write a letter.
